ABOUT H.A. BROWN
H.A. Brown is the local, public K-8 school in the East Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Brown's Principal Connie Carnivale received the Lindback Distinguished Principal Award in 2014 and she is one of a 3-member cohort of the Neubauer Fellowship Academy of Principals.
The school also offers a wide array of specialized programming, including:
Autistic Support, Student Government (3-8), Art Enrichment Club, Chorus, Orchestra, Physical Education Clubs, Yearbook, News Broadcast Club, School Newspaper, Chess Club, Kensington Soccer Club, Reading & Math Enrichment, OIC of Philadelphia (Gr. 5-8), STEAM theatre, Dance, Art & Music classes (Gr. 5-8), Karate (Gr. 2), Claymobile (Gr. 2)
Friends of H.A. Brown works with the school's staff to identify and support additional programming priorities. Our library volunteers generously donate their time two mornings each week, allowing all K-4 students to access the school's library. In fall 2019, we began introducing yoga and mindfulness to lower grade classes. FHAB also organizes fundraising events to support programs. We host Election Day bake sales, coordinate with the Somers Team on the Riverwards Run, and we had our biggest fundraiser to date, CARNIVAL, in November 2018.
